John Michael Witmer

John M. Witmer of Florence, Kentucky passed away on October 31, 2023.

John was born to Anna and Paul Witmer in Canton, Ohio on June 14, 1938.  He did well in school and left to join the military at 18.  After that he attended college in Columbus, Ohio where he met Patricia Moskus and they were married in 1963.

He had a successful career in engineering and business that saw him travel the world and manage large manufacturing firms. In his free time he pursued his love of piloting small aircraft, and in later years would work a good deal with the Civil Air Patrol, teaching search and rescue to young people.

He pursued the art and craft of fine woodworking throughout his life. He was interested in history and the world, and took his family to many historical sites and later in life traveled the world with his beloved wife Pat.

He is predeceased by his wife Patricia Witmer, and his parents Paul and Anna Witmer. He is survived by his three children, Michele (mother of Hannah and Charlotte Fitz), Jackie (mother of Alwyn and Wilder Mouton, and Tom (Stacia) Witmer, father of Jack and Maddie Witmer.

He was the oldest of four, his surviving siblings Paul (Theresa), Shirley (Matt), and Margaret.

John was a source of help to those around him. From involvement in church activities, to senior groups, to collecting toys for children he placed himself as a helper of others. He sustained his health for many years through his love of swimming, and the fellowship of friends he met through swimming, walking, groups, and dinner gatherings. He was close with his family and his loss is felt deeply by them.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 9:30am until 11:30am at Linnemann Funeral Home, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 11:30am at the Funeral Home. Mr. Witmer will be laid to rest at Burlington Cemetery following the service.
