Fern E. Curry
Fern E. Curry, age 96 of Florence, passed on Sunday at her residence. Fern grew up on Winston Hill, Taylor Mill, Kentucky on a 5 acre farm before she moved to Ft. Mitchell in 1937. She was a proud winner of the Baby Beauty Contest at the Cincinnati Zoo. In the 60s & 70s, Fern loved waiting tables at Frisch’s, Sky Chef, Jerry’s and Bob Evans.
Fern was a woman of many talents. She loved baking and would make specialty cookies for friends and family at Christmas and decorated fudge eggs at Easter. She was a terrific gardener and once had a garden with 26 different vegetables (one for each letter of the alphabet) before moving into her townhome in Oakbrook, where she won the Garden of the Year Award. Fern was a talented seamstress and could make coats, blazers, three-piece suits, a communion dress and even a wedding dress.
Other hobbies she had included doing oil paintings and special cartoons at Christmas for her children and always loved to dance. She won a dance contest on the Island Queen, loved dancing and walking on her treadmill to Elvis all the way through her 96 years. Fern was also an Honorary Sheriff that was bestowed on her by Sheriff Charles Korzenborn, whom she used to babysit as a child. She was also a very reverent woman and would make sure she prayed every afternoon.
Most of all, Fern said she loved being a mother and grandmother more than anything in her life. And had a favorite saying of “It’s All About My Kids!”
