Stephen Hatfield
Stephen K. Hatfield, 71, of Edgewood, KY, passed away at his place in Bradenton, Florida on Friday, December 11, 2015 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Lilly Hatfield, and his brother, T.J. Hatfield. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bev Hatfield, of Edgewood, KY, his sons, Stuart Hatfield (Stacey) of Woodbridge, VA, and Mitchell Hatfield (Michelle) of Ft. Mitchell, KY. He is also survived by his sisters, Phyllis Blackburn (Paris) of Galena, OH, Janet Bowe (J.B.) of New Albany, OH, and Jeanne Hatfield of Galena, OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Emily, George, Sophia, Willem, and Owen Hatfield. He served as an insurance adjustor for Grange Mutual Co., and as a Production Control Analyst for Western Electric Company. Steve established the Hatfield Insurance Agency in 1979 in Latonia after the acquisition of the J.L. Thornton Insurance Company. For almost four decades Steve was a driving force in the Northern Kentucky community. He served on local zoning boards which addressed long range planning for the community, created a positive pro-business arena, and the decisions for the geographic water lines and distribution of water. He served on the Foundation Board for St. Elizabeth Hospital which was instrumental in raising funds for the then newly constructed ambulatory wing, which provided additional out-patient services. He also was an Advisory Board Member of the Salvation Army in Covington and past Committee Chair instrumental in establishing the latch-key program for children after school. He was also active in the annual Christmas Kettle Campaign, with annual record-holding collections for a single location. Steve served as a sergeant in the United States Army, was a Vietnam Veteran, and was honorably discharged. He was a member of The American Legion-Post 203, Latonia, KY, St. Pius X Church in Edgewood, KY, and served on the church’s parish council. He served as President of the NKY Independent Insurance Agents, was a member of the Professional Insurance Agents of Kentucky, a member of the Latonia Business Association, served on the Board of Adjustment for the City of Covington. Steve was a longtime member of the Covington Rotary Club, the Kenton County Water District Board, the Kenton County Police Merit Board, the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati International Airport Board and the Airport Noise Abatement Committee. He was a board member and past president of the Ft. Mitchell Country Club, a member of and past vice-president of the NKY Heritage League, a member of the NKY Chamber of Commerce, a past member of the Gallatin County Chamber of Commerce and Gallatin County Tourism Board, Covington Rotary businessman of the year for 2014. Visitation will be held at St. Pius X Church, 340 Dudley Pike, Edgewood, KY on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 4:30-7:30 P.M. A funeral service will be held at St. Pius X Church on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to: Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, Covington, KY or Wounded Warrior Project.
