Andrew Jackson Mundew IV
In Loving Memory of
Andrew Jackson Mundew, IV, passed peacefully, on October 4, 2021 with his loving wife Linda at his side. Andy was born January 3, 1947 to his parents Jack and Lynn Mundew.
Andy was gifted with intelligence, humor, a quick wit, a great laugh, a BIG personality, and a loving spirit.
Andy’s parents were terrific. He always felt like he was raised in a Norman Rockwell life. He enjoyed his small-town childhood, living with his parents and his sister Pat, in Malta and McConnelsville, Ohio. He left his parent’s Home and set off for college when he was just 16.
He chose the University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering, because Cincinnati, Ohio was the home of the Reds baseball team. He and his dad were loyal fans.
Andy had a successful career working for Engineering and Transportation Management Firms in Cincinnati, Ohio. Around 1996, he started his own business, AJM Consulting. That was a great move for him! His business was successful and he loved working for himself.
Andy married his wife, Linda, on September 19, 1981, in his home town of McConnelsville, Ohio. They just celebrated their 40th anniversary of marital bliss.
He loved family, good friends, bowling, fire pits, bird watching, and sports. He enjoyed hosting gatherings and poker games.
Andy really enjoyed coaching “Girls softball” that centered around his niece, Brandy Scudder. The girls enjoyed his style. Thirty years later, some of the girls, including Brandy, still play softball.
Andy enjoyed organizing and hosting poker games and an annual Seafood Fest. He loved the impromptu neighborhood meetings in the Cul de Sac or just socializing on his front stoop or relaxing on Steve’s deck or around the fire pit. In the last two years, he especially enjoyed the monthly “BORED” meetings at Steve’s, with the group of neighborhood men (Steve, Michael, & Doug) to have a few beers or bourbon and great conversation.
He took great pride in the 30 ft. flag pole in his front yard… flying the American flag along with the Reds flag and others. Andy also mounted a 16 ft. weather station to keep an eye on weather related activities and encouraged our neighbors to download the app., so they could enjoy.
Andy is survived by his wife, Linda Conway Mundew, his niece, Brandy Scudder and her two daughters, his daughter Andrea Mundew, and her son, his nephew Will Ryan and wife Keri and their three children, and niece Juli Ryan and her son.
Andy will be missed by all those who knew and loved him!
Family and Friends share memories and thoughts of Andy J. Mundew, 1/3/47—10/4/21
Linda Conway Mundew
My husband Andy, was an absolute “original” and “the love of my life.” I met Andy in June of 1976. We worked together for three years and I considered him a good friend. In January 1979, Andy asked me on a date, I remember saying that I was apprehensive about changing our relationship… it could ruin a good friendship. We began having lunch and getting to know each other over the next few months and I found myself falling in love with him… our great friendship blossomed and we have shared a wonderful Love for 42 years. We were married on September 19, 1981 and just celebrated our 40th anniversary! On our wedding day, our best friends Rick Young (Best Man) and Cathy Bishop (Matron of Honor) stood with us as witnesses and have continued to be very close, best friends of ours.
Andy introduced me to camping, celestial events, sports, owning a home, traveling within the US and cruising abroad. He had a keen interest in geography and was a natural traveler. I was even invited on some excursions with him & his college buddy, John Pioch… I enjoyed tagging along. We really enjoyed league bowling and were so excited after several years to team up with Margie & Mel Bayless, at Florence Bowl and with Randy Stacey at Walt’s Bowl. We enjoyed karaoke and going to neighborhood bars. We both loved to dance, especially the “jitterbug”!
Andy was highly intelligent, possessed a wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and logical thinking. I could never match his wit, so I never tried… I just enjoyed his. Andy was confident in himself and never let anyone else define him… I loved him for that!!!
Andy started his own business in 1996 and while we were nervous to make such a change, he was a natural and quite successful. It was a great move for him… he really enjoyed working for himself.
As I reflect on our life together, I feel that no one ever loved me as Andy loved me. He was romantic, attentive and devoted to “us” as a couple. I always loved that he would rush to open the car door for me… he said his father taught him the importance of that!
I will always LOVE YOU Andy and know that you have made my life more loving, interesting, wonderful and fun”. I will miss you in my life… your wonderful laugh, dancing with you, planning cruises, holding gatherings, making our home cozy, bowling, and just being together. Andy, you will always live in my heart, my thoughts and my memories!
John & Robin Pioch
“Andy (nickname-Gort) was my roommate and fellow civil engineering student at the Univ of Cincinnati, where our bond was sealed with a 60 mile hike. Within a year after college, we went on a 10,000 mile “winter” road trip, experiencing 58 degrees below zero, in Alaska. Whereupon, we founded the North American Explorers Club. He was the Best Man at my & Robin’s wedding. 600 miles apart, but my closest friend – 80 meetings in 40 years, including another epic road trip to Alaska to experience summer tundra midnight sun and the arctic Ocean shore. I shared more laughter with Andy than with anyone else I have known.
Rick Young
“Andy will be remembered for his love of computers, cigars, the Reds, and most importantly, his desire to engage and experience the world around him. His true passions were Linda and the people who became his friends during his time here. On a personal note, Andy has been one of my longest and best friends, with whom I both started and will end my professional life. He has been incomparable as a mentor and a friend. I owe him much.”
Will Ryan
Andy was greatly loved by his sister, Pat, and her family.
Cousin Linda from PA
“I remember as a little girl, my mother telling me Andy was so smart and could read a newspaper at 4 years old and I thought that was remarkable. As an adult, I came to know his intelligence, wit and quiet laid-back demeanor. So glad Andy & Linda were able to celebrate their 40 years together! Our prayers for strength will continue for you both.”
Allen Arthur
“Andy and I played a lot of pool and went to a lot of cheap bars, but I have to admit Andy was a better pool player than me. I could never tell him that before but I can now, although I’m sure he knew it. His angel has always been Linda. He always considered himself so lucky to have found her.”
Steve DeMuth
Things that remind me of Andy… colorful from head to toe, inside and out. Welcoming and interested in others lives. Comfortable bullshitting with the best. Loyal, quick witted, great neighbor. King of the Cul-de-Sac. Fire ring fan, everything’s a FEST… Lobster Fest, Beef Fest, etc. Poker nights at the “Office” with quiche and a Black Velvet… joined by Mike, Doug, Dino, Johnny Danger, Randy, Gary and several others whose names evade me. Love of his “Reds” and of course Linda. Fairly certain there’s more… “Bored” meetings around the fire with music and plenty of bourbon. A Good friend when I had none close by… irreplaceable!
Mike Daniels
“So many memories and things come to mind in the 30 years we have been friends and neighbors. The king of the Cul de Sac. The exalted one. The Mayor of Saddlebrook. Andy was the catalyst that made our street a “neighborhood.” Just the simple act of neighbors sitting on his front stoop on a summer evening harkened back to bygone days. Andy was always up for a cookout or a party. His non matching outfits always worked for him. He never lost his interest in learning something new. A diamond has many facets and certainly Andy had many facets. His interest in traveling and geography were a few. His interest in the weather and Astronomy were others. He could hold a conversation on about any subject. I will miss his boisterous laugh and back and forth banter. I could go on and on, but there are some memories I would like to hold close to my heart. Love ya Man”
Cheri Daniels
“One of the most powerful memories I have of Andy was at our first “crabfest.” He wanted us all to hold hands and he led us in prayer. It was a short, yet sweet prayer, but this was a side of Andy I had not seen before and then he told us that he was a minister. Not sure why, but I felt closer to him after that. Whenever we got together for dining, no matter where or who was there, he always led the group in prayer.”
Doug & Laurene Dewey
“We Remember 2018 New Year’s Eve… Andy, Linda & Steve joined our New Years Eve celebration… they had a bit to drink before walking across the cul de sac… and joined in wonderfully. Andy, as always, was the life of the party!!! Andy was the one to help organize the neighborhood get togethers. Too many happy memories.”
Margie & Mel Bayless
“We met Andy at Lookout Bowl and remember his big boisterous personality. The four of us had many good times and fond memories, like Witnessing Andy’s first “300” game and our Team placing 1st on several leagues. Traditionally, Andy & Linda joined us for Thanksgiving dinner and Andy always gave the blessing. Andy always wanted to witness the Thanksgiving turkey dropping down into the pot of oil and then feasting on a leg afterward. At our annual pig roast, Andy positioned himself to have the first piece of pork, to ensure it was finished to perfection. After bowling, we would go to Donna Donna’s/Average Joe’s for Karaoke and Andy would sing David Allan Coe’s “You Never Even Called Me by My Name” …and yes, Andy stayed until “So I’ll hang around as long as you will let me.” We loved Andy, the Exalted One.”
Maureen & Glenn
“Andy, the “Exalted One” made everyone feel welcome to the Saddlebrook “Cul de Sac” The neighborhood will not be the same without his quick humor & infectious laugh. To know Andy is to LOVE Andy”
Linda Becker
“I am truly going to miss “Hey B what’s going on”. My sister and I do an annual bourbon tasting… we search for Bars we have never been to, and just in the last few years, we began the first bourbon taste with Andy. Always the best drink of the day. I have many other wonderful thoughts, but trying to keep it on the light side. Love you both”
Kay & Dick Smith
“What we love about Andy is his intellect, sense of humor and the value he puts on his friendships”
Cheri & Roger Sizemore
“I remember his grilled “Sea Bass” so tasty… he is the master of charcoal grilling! Our Wedding of course: Andy agreed to get ordained for us and officiated our marital ceremony, on Christmas Eve, 2013. Rodger and I both had 2 failed marriages, but the one that Andy facilitated, will stick forever, so Andy will forever be part of our “Love” story. I will miss that booming voice and gregarious laugh, his quick wit and even kinder heart. I pride myself as being Andy’s favorite Liberal! And, his deep love for Linda, whom he lovingly called his lovely Bride through 40 years.”
Cathy Bishop
What I love and remember about Andy: Fun Lobster Bakes and Karaoke nights with him singing “You Never Even Call Me By My Name.” Also, his love of political debates… but most of all, his love for my best friend Linda.
Debbie Spaulding
“I remember when I first got to know Andy better… when the four of us shared the house at Eagle Creek, Naples Florida. I thought that Andy appeared to be a very liberal person, but quickly learned that he is one the most “conservative” men I’ve known. We invited Andy & Linda to join our trip to Charleston, SC. We experienced an awesome time together, in spite of needing to share a single bathroom. I knew then, that we were destined to be best friends. Other great times were the months we spent enjoying Naples, during the winter months. One of my favorite Naples memories is Andy on the Adult tricycle. What a sight to behold! We have shared so many great times together that will be with me forever. I love you both so very much and am really missing you guys.”
Ginny & Gerry
“We will always love him as the Exalted One”
Sylvia & Jack Ruthven
“Jack and I always said that Andy is the kind of man, that when you meet him, he makes you feel as though you have known him forever. Andy was fun loving and happy… full of life and love.” Hugs!!!
Jessica Selasky
“Every time Brad & I hear the David Allen Coe song, “You Never Called Me by My Name” we laugh and think of Andy. My hearlfelt memory is how Andy & Linda became my social guardians after my divorce. They included me in so many outings. I loved watching the two of them dance together… pure joy”
Barbara & Ben Howard
“Andy, a tall, handsome man, full of good humor and broad smiles, loved his converse sneakers. Bright red, to match his vibrant personality. He wore them to parties, dinners, and a variety of special events. To make his attire more memorable he often wore brightly-colored and wildly-patterned pants. You could always count on Andy to be the life of the party, but he had a serious side as well. He was devoted to Linda, his wife of 40 years, and was a brilliant businessman who served as his own investment advisor. Andy will be well missed by all who loved him.”
