Steven A. Elmlinger
Steven A. Elmlinger, 52, of Union, KY went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2021. He was born August 8, 1968 in Cincinnati, OH. Steve was raised in the City of Reading and graduated from Moeller High School and Wilmington College. Steve was a devout Catholic, and he was a member of St. Paul Church in Florence, KY, where he also worked. He had enormous faith, and his Church was always an important part of his life. He was enthusiastic about exercise and good health. Steve had competed and accomplished 3 Iron-Man competitions, and 25+ marathons. You could often find Steve out for a long run, or working out at LA Fitness in Florence, KY. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially hockey and his New York Rangers. Steve liked to relax and unwind; he was a pretzels, chips and beer type of guy. His favorite restaurant was Buffalo Bob’s. Steve loved the outdoors; whether he was out running, cutting grass, or playing golf, just being outside brought him true joy. Steve owned and operated his own grass cutting business for 21 years called Cut and Trim Lawn Care, which he was very proud of. He also enjoyed learning and watching shows about history, especially the Civil War. Steve was a proud husband, father, Paw Paw, and brother, and his family meant the world to him. He loved having his whole family together, and often said, “It’s always better when we are all together,” and watching his family grow brought him true happiness. He had a positive attitude, and always had a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Judith Elmlinger, his brother, Chris Elmlinger, and his father-in-law, Robert Lang. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 30 years: Polly Elmlinger (nee Lang), his beloved children: Christopher (Kelsey) Elmlinger, Daniel Elmlinger, Michael Elmlinger, Mary Elmlinger, and Patrick Elmlinger, his cherished grandbabies: Rae Ann and Charles Elmlinger, his dear siblings: Rob (Jenny) Elmlinger, Susan (Dwayne) Slavey, Amy Perdue, and Julie (Ryan) Androne, and in-laws: Mary Ann Lang (mother), Doug (Kathi) Lang, Sue Bedel, Patricia (Tim) Murphy, Greg (Kelly) Lang, David (Stacey) Lang, and Karen (Drew) Green, and a multitude of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Dennis and Darrelyn Emerson. A visitation will be held for Steve on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 5pm until 8pm at Linnemann Funeral Home, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005. Steve was not a suit and tie kind of guy, so the visitation will be casual. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Paul Church, 7301 Dixie Hwy, Florence, KY 41042. Following Mass, Steve will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul Church at the address listed above or to the Diocese of Covington Seminary Fund at 1125 Madison Ave, Covington, KY 41011.

Strong at Faith and in Spirit
My heart goes out to Steve’s family. As we transitioned Ryker to St. Paul this year, Steve was the first person to greet us outside the building. His smile and willingness to help came through immediately. This caused me to memory bounce to a time at the gym. This was actually where I had initially was introduced this “willingness to help” in action first hand. This guy was a beast at Fitworks back in the day and helped me on one occasion jump in a set with him and get 315 lbs on the bench! No questions asked, he motivated me in that moment, encouraged me that I could do it, and gave me praise as I pushed to a limit that I did not know I could achieve. This, I’m sure is how he loved, lived, and walked in his faith. I appreciate that moment with him.

Gone home to Jesus!
I was heartbroken when I heard about the death of Steve. I have such wonderful memories of the time we spent together at family gatherings. I know that my mom (Pat Suder) had a special place in her heart for Steve and his brothers and sisters. I pray for Steve’s family. I hope the love of their family and friends will give them the strength to deal with their loss. Steven has now gone home to be with Jesus.I can only imagine the party taking place in heaven.

We were shocked to hear the news about Steve, and want you to know he and the entire family are in our thoughts and prayers.
We first met Steve through our kids playing soccer many, many years ago. Those kids are now adults, but we all have fond memories for all the various sports we had together.

Words cannot adequately describe Steve
Steve was a fantastic human being, and cared about everyone he met. Growing up on Chris’ baseball team, Steve quickly stepped in as one of the coaches and did it well. He knew how to motivate people, and put a smile on their face doing it. There was no better feeling than Steve constantly keeping on me about my swing in baseball, because it made me feel as though he really cared about my success at the plate. He was always as passionate about my own swing at the plate as if I was his own child & always wanted me to get better. Sometimes in life, we become complacent and I certainly did that with Steve. I just always expected him to be there, sitting in church just a few pews away and giving me the classic “DP!” that he grew accustomed to calling me back in the baseball years. Or even him running around the festival grounds getting things squared away for the festival year in and year out. I will miss all of that, and I feel like I didn’t show my appreciation as much as I should have while he was still around. For that, I am sorry Steve. This world would’ve been a better world with Steve in it. I only hope to be at least half the man that he was, because God knows that he has gained a wonderful soul.

A Special Man
My husband, Ken grew up with Steve and his family in the same neighborhood and going to the same schools. I met Steve at St. Paul church and school. His son Michael and daughter Mary went to school with our kids. I never saw Steve with a frown on his face nor when asked for help he was willing to do with a smile and a laugh. He would yell at me always for propping open the doors to the cafeteria during the festival time and I would just laugh at him. God just got himself a very special man.
