David G. Walton Sr.
David G. Walton Sr., age 85 of Burlington, passed away May 4, 2021. David proudly served his
country in the United States Army Corp of Engineers and as a member/Chairman of the Draft
Board for 12 years. He was a positive influence in the Boone County community and served as
Boone County Surveyor while working in his own civil engineering consulting and land surveying
firm, Walton & Walton Engineers. He was also a member of Burlington Baptist Church.
David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Taylor Walton, children: David (Ya Ling) Walton
Jr. and Melanie (Fitzroy) Walton Robertson, grandchildren: Gabriella Robertson, Olivia
Robertson, Hope Walton, Emmanuel Walton, sister: Judy (David) Belsley, brother-in-laws:
Harold (Phyllis) Eugene Taylor II, Charles Monroe Taylor, nieces and nephews: Harold
(Machelle) Eugene Taylor III, Rebecca (Hank) Taylor Hudepohl, Karen (Lawrence) Belsley Pratt,
and Eric (Phoebe) Belsley. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Anne Sanker Walton and
parents: Noel Gaines and Gladys Moore Walton.
David was known for his strength and leadership in many areas of his life. He was a leader at
Burlington High School as the Class Valedictorian, President of the 1954 Senior Class, Captain of
the Football Team, Mr. Burlington, Best Dressed/Most Likely to Succeed, all while working
alongside his father who was also the Boone County Surveyor at that time. During college, he
was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity (Social Chairman) while earning his Bachelor
of Arts in Geology with a minor in Russian Literature from the McMicken College of Arts &
Sciences at the University of Cincinnati in 1958. He continued with public service as a member
in the Boone County Jaycees, Rotary Club, and Toastmasters Club.
His love for travel and international affairs led him through life to learn as much as he could
about other cultures, countries, and languages. He taught himself multiple languages and was
a life-long student of world history. His calm, respectful, quiet demeanor always stood out
wherever he traveled. A brilliant scholar with the ability to teach himself anything sustained his
passions for life.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Linnemann Funeral
Homes, Burlington. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 11:00 am at
Linnemann Funeral Homes, Burlington. Burial will immediately follow at Belleview Bottoms
Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 masks will be required by all guests at the funeral home and
cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Burlington Baptist Church, Boone County

To Nancy, David, Melanie and family
I was so saddened to learn of Dave’s passing when I was just home visiting Mom for Mother’s Day. I treasure the time we worked together, the conversations we had about so many topics while traveling to/from job sites . My life profession as a civil engineer is a result of the time I spent working with Dave. He was arguably the smartest person I have ever known. As such, he always challenged me to think and stretch my horizons while never talking down to me. I don’t pass a White Castle without thinking of our morning stops for coffee (and Davey to get “belly bombers”). When we talked he always listened intently, a skill that is sadly not possessed by many. We went through some challenging times together…Please know how much he meant to me and that my family and I are praying for you all in this loss.
