George Rhodes
George James Rhodes was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas. George was born in Cook County, IL on March 11, 1932 to the late Edward and Della Rhodes. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Ft. Mitchell, KY where he enjoyed donating his time to caring for the church grounds, volunteering with St. Vincent DePaul and being an extraordinary minister and usher. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sisters Zelma Forbush and Charlotte Copple. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Rhodes, daughters Tamara Elmlinger (Jeffrey) and Andrea Scully (Michael), and grandchildren Christopher, Spencer, and Matthew Elmlinger and Hunter Scully. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church. Death as in Life
Today as I celebrate my birth day of George bringing me into this life, I am reminded how even in his death, George erased all existence of the family he abandoned and left behind in their very young lives. Four children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren were far too insignificant to be even mentioned upon his death. Had he cared for and tended to their lives, the very lives he brought forth in this world even half as much as he tended his gardens, perhaps we all could have lived happy and fulfilled lives. There’s a special place reserved for people like George, a/k/a my once upon a time father.
