Fred B. Kahmann
Fred B. Kahmann, 94 of Erlanger, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020 at his residence. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. Fred was a hard worker and retired from working as a union carpenter and owner of Fred & Bob’s Construction after over 50 years.
He is survived by his 2 daughters: Karen (Brent) Yeager of Florence, and Lisa (Steve) Uehlein of Burlington, 3 sons: Fred J. (Shauna) Kahmann of Wilder, Dale (Angie) Kahmann of Burlington, and Fr. Kevin Kahmann of Erlanger, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends. Fred was preceded by his wife: Rita Kahmann, 2 brothers: Paul Kahmann and Norbert Kahmann and 3 sisters: Katherine Helmer, Rita Feldman, and Henrietta Hinzman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of Heaven Parish, Erlanger. Due to COVID-19, face masks are requested for services and social distancing to be maintained. Interment will be held privately at St. John’s Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. A wonderful neighbor
Fred was a wonderful man. Kind-hearted and sweet. He would come across the street often and spend a few minutes with my mom and me. One of my fondest memories is seeing him and his friend Charlie sitting together on the porch. He always had a smile to cheer you. The world is greatly diminished without this good, kind man. I know his family is saddened but I also know that their memories of this sweet man will bring them great comfort.
Knothole Manager and Friend
Mr. Kahmann was a Class “D” manager in the Dixie Area Knothole League in 1970 when I was a 15-year-old first-year umpire. For some reason, some of my first games (including my first game, I think) involved Mr. Kahmann’s team. He treated me with kindness and respect, encouraging me and helping my confidence. I went on to umpire many games that season, and I’m proud one of them was a Cincinnati Tournament game. And I continued to umpire Knothole, then high school baseball, including the last two seasons. Maybe had I been assigned to different games without Mr. Kahmann around, maybe things would have turned out differently. I understand that he gave the Knothole Supervisor a good report about me. I have always remembered Mr. Kahmann for his help to me that season.
I was impressed with how wonderful Mr. Kahmann treated his players. He was always the model of what a Class “D” manager of 8 and 9-year-olds should be. I managed my first Knothole team the next season as a 16-year-old, and I tried to follow Mr. Kahmann’s example.
The entire time Mr. Kahmann was in Knothole, he was highly respected by everyone involved. His players were lucky they were on his teams and I know he helped them grow up by being a fantastic role model.
I regret not staying in touch since the 1970s. He was someone I greatly respected. He was always “Mr. Kahmann” to me.

Love from across the Street
We want to express our sincere condolences to Fred’s family and friends. He was a special neighbor and always looked after the “girls” across the street. We will miss Fred and his warm and welcoming smile. From Carol and Cathy (the “girls” across the street).
