,

Remembrance

Patti, My wife, Loann, and I were saddened to hear of Steve’s illness and passing. We saw you both often enough at the Five Seasons pool to get to know you. I know Steve was looking forward to retiring soon and joining you and your daughter in NC. He was always a joy, quick with a story and a smile. We will miss him and wish you the best, all things considered, in NC.
Yours truly, John and Loann Sullivan (Delta Airlines)

Teammate

Patti, I found out at work yesterday that Steve had passed. I can’t tell you how sorry I am. Please tell the rest of your family that all of you are in my prayers. Steve was a great teammate and I really enjoyed playing with him, not to mention going out and having a cold one now and then. Again, I am so sorry and he will be greatly missed.

Steve We Will Miss You!

Patti, McKell, and Seaver we are so sorry for your loss. All of you are in our prayers. Steve was a kind soul and a great friend to us. We will deeply miss him. Our son Gerald started taking lessons from Steve when he was 7 years old. He is now 19 and a D1 pitcher in Mississippi. He would not be where he is today if it wasn’t for Steve’s teaching skills, guidance and baseball wisdom. He taught Gerald pitching skills but more importantly he built a confident pitcher out of our son. He taught us all a lot about the game but he also taught us not to be so serious about the game and to always make it fun. Steve rest in peace buddy.
Love,
Jerry, Sheila, Gerald, and Sierra Pintarich

To the family of Steve Oliverio

Dear Patty and children,

My thoughts and prayers are with you this morning. Last evening was a beautiful tribute to Steve. Although we haven’t had time together, it was obvious to see what a loving and supportive family and community you have around you. This was all evidence of a life well lived. Made it be a comfort to you.

Coach, forever…

Coach and Oliverio family, I wish I could be there to support you during this time…but I hope you know I love you so very dearly.

Steve taught me everything I knew about the game of baseball & softball — even more things than I can count about life. I first met him and Patti when playing little league baseball in the 90’s…eventually convinced to attend his baseball camp in the summer of ‘97, to “see how some real girls play the game”. Always trying to get me to switch from baseball to fast pitch :). Of course, it didn’t take much convincing after that to make the switch!

Some of the greatest memories I’ll hold forever are from being an athlete of his for BCHS, starting in 7th grade. Where I thought I was better than everyone because I “played baseball”, Steve put me in my place quicker than I could say the word Softball.

He always had a way of getting more out of an athlete than they felt they could get out of themselves. I know I am a better human being for it. To this day, I tell everyone that he is one of the biggest contributors for my opportunity to play Division I softball and for coaching collegiately. No question…

His style, humor, and knack for teaching stuck to me. Him and Patti are the reasons I spent my collegiate career planning on coaching, myself. I even used his infamous “flash signs” for my own collegiate softball programs. Steve, they still work…you still got it, Coach! It’s all about “the little things”, right? 🙂

Being grateful couldn’t be more of an understatement. As my Coach, mentor, and friend…my life is so much better having met you, Steve and Oliverio family. Watching how he was as a family man, was even more admirable.

I sure hope they have enough barrels of baseballs on that ball field they’ve got set up for you up there…you’ve still got a lot of coaching to do…

Song “Coach” by Kenny Chesney:
“For all of your time, and your heart and your soul…You deserve a lot more than a toast. But, here’s to you…and thanks again. We’ll never forget you, Coach”.
