Gloria Jeanne Whitson

Gloria Jeanne Whitson, nee Wiggins, of Parrish, FL passed away October 30, 2018 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Raymond T. Whitson, Jr. and grandson, Christopher O. McGarr.  Gloria was raised in Lexington, KY, the only child of Alvin T. and Opal V. Wiggins, where she graduated from Lafayette High School and attended Transylvania College.

Ray and Gloria lived in Erlanger, KY for thirty-six years and, together, raised their family of eight children. Gloria will be remembered as an excellent cook and for her genuine southern hospitality. She fed a continual stream of friends and neighbors and none were turned away. Many will have fond memories of dropping in, crowding around “Mom” Whitson’s table and sharing a meal.

Gloria is survived by three sons, Raymond III (Heather) of Lexington, SC, Alvin T. (Donna) of Sharonville, OH, Stuart (Brenda) of Erlanger, KY and five daughters, Laura McGarr (Tom) of Duette, FL, Mary Hamilton (Robert) of Erlanger, KY, Carol Kirkwood (Michael) of Hebron, KY, Janet Wright (William) of Ryland Heights, KY and Rebecca Green (Mark) of Richwood, KY. She also leaves nephews Scott and Bruce Whitson, nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Gloria’s family will be receiving friends for a memorial service on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Linnemann’s Funeral Home in Erlanger from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Private burial will be in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, KY.
